Fast answer
The answer before the background
A permanent global order would hide the decision that matters: which lane job the map requires. The official game has four core tower families—Militia, Archer, Mage and Guardian—with five upgrade paths each, plus secret or purchasable tower content described by the stores. Build a balanced test with blocking, physical pressure, magic coverage and crowd handling, then rank each branch inside that job rather than forcing every tower into one list.
Official structure
Start from four families and five paths
| Family | First test | Failure signal to record |
|---|---|---|
| Militia | How long the lane stays occupied under equal support. | Units fall early or too many enemies bypass the block. |
| Archer | Reliable pressure against ordinary targets and exposed lanes. | Armor, range or target selection reduces useful damage. |
| Mage | Performance where physical pressure stalls. | Slow attack cycle or poor coverage loses to dense waves. |
| Guardian | Area control and heavy-wave response in the current branch. | Cost arrives too late or shots waste on scattered enemies. |
Placement model
Rank the upgrade where its job happens
A choke point rewards a different branch from a long open lane. Put blocking where multiple towers can exploit the delay, place range where it covers more than one approach, and reserve expensive area damage for a route that actually groups targets. An isolated premium tower is not automatically better than two well-positioned core upgrades.
The official description also mentions more than 20 tower abilities, including summoned creatures. Ability timing, target rules and summon uptime can change the result even when two result screens show similar total damage. Record what the tower prevented, not only what number it produced.
Scorecard
Use five columns for every comparison
- Stage fit: the exact lane geometry, wave count and boss route.
- Enemy fit: armor, resistance, speed, flying or crowd behavior visible in the current client.
- Total cost: construction, upgrade path and any supporting block or hero required.
- Stability: weakest result across three runs, not the single best clear.
- Transfer value: whether the same investment helps campaign, achievements and Infinite Challenge.
The official pages confirm the system but not current branch statistics. We do not manufacture exact S/A/B placements from artwork, old videos or the purchase price of a tower.
