The answer before the background

Our recommendation

Tower Dominion pits are created by building a dead-end path branch and then fully enclosing it so no legal path tile can extend from its final space. When the game recognizes that closed dead end, it converts the enclosed area into a monster pit. If nothing appears, an entry connection, open tile, or invalid enclosure is usually still present.

How to make a pit in four checks

StepActionSuccess check
1Branch away from the active route into a dead end.Enemies still have one valid main route.
2Surround the final branch space with path-blocking terrain or placed tiles. No legal extension remains from the branch end.
3Confirm the enclosure does not include or connect to an entry point. The branch is isolated from every spawn except through its neck.
4Place the final closing tile and let the game resolve generation. The enclosed dead end transforms into a pit.

Why the pit did not spawn

  • One adjacent location still accepts a legal path tile.
  • The branch is not a true dead end because it reconnects to the main route.
  • The enclosure touches an entry or another generation constraint.
  • The final tile was placed in an order that changed the available path interpretation.
  • An older patch or guide shows generation behavior that was later fixed.

When the space cost is worth it

A good pit uses awkward outer space that was not needed for a main firing lane. A bad pit consumes a central corner, blocks a future extension, or forces weak coverage on the route that actually decides the wave.

Build the defensive backbone first. If the current wave is already leaking, closing a pit is a distraction rather than a recovery tool.

Version note

The developer expanded pits after launch and later fixed pit-generation issues. Always include the current patch when sharing a failed layout.

Common questions

How do you make a pit in Tower Dominion?

Create a dead-end path branch, fully block every legal extension from its final space, keep it clear of entries, and place the closing tile that lets the game recognize the enclosure.

Why is my Tower Dominion pit not working?

Check for one remaining legal connection, a branch that rejoins the route, an entry inside the enclosure, or a patch-specific generation issue.

Do pits replace normal towers?

No. Pits are optional board features. The main path and its firing coverage still decide whether the run survives.

When should I build a pit?

After the core route is stable and when the dead-end branch uses low-value space without blocking later path or building options.
