Fast answer
The answer before the background
The Axon TD Uprising best towers are a balanced set of jobs, not one fixed tier list. For a current version 1.2 loadout, reserve slots for dependable single-target damage, area damage, crowd control, support or range, and an answer to shield, cloak, teleport or repair enemies; use the remaining slots for the map and mode. Version 1.2.3 gave every single-target defense 20% more damage in Survival and co-op Survival while changing Artillery, Drilling Laser, Duplicator, Plasmathrower and Siphon Cannon, so rankings written before that patch should be retested rather than copied.
Current framework
Fill roles before ranking names
| Loadout job | What it must solve | Evaluation test |
|---|---|---|
| Single-target damage | Bosses and durable priority enemies | Time one isolated heavy target after the 1.2.3 Survival bonus. |
| Area or line damage | Dense waves and spawned units | Compare total leak reduction, not only sheet damage. |
| Control | Fast, corner-sensitive or clustered movement | Measure extra firing time created without breaking the maze. |
| Support | Range, amplification, economy or tower interaction | Count how many useful defenses receive the effect. |
| Utility counter | Cloak, teleport, repair, lift or other Axon abilities | Confirm the chosen tool changes the actual failure. |
Patch boundary
Why an old top-five list can be wrong
The official 1.2.3 notes adjusted default targeting so support enemies such as Mass Cloaker, Purger, Architect, Mass Teleporter and others receive a defined priority order. The same update changed several named defenses and strengthened the whole single-target category in Survival. A tower that looked weak against late waves before the patch may now fill a valid boss role, while a previously dominant area option may have lower base values.
Version 1.2.4 then fixed interactions involving Electron Launcher, Radiation Vent and spawned units. That means a ranking must state the patch, mode, map, difficulty, Tech, upgrade and path design. A screenshot of one result without those fields is not a portable recommendation.
Selection method
Use three controlled runs
- Keep the same map, difficulty, Tech path and tile route for all three comparisons.
- Change only one defense or upgrade and record Credits, Power, wave, lives, damage job and first leak cause.
- Test Campaign or Quickplay separately from Survival because mode-specific bonuses and progression change the result.
- In co-op, assign roles and economy ownership before judging a tower whose support covers both players.
Practical shortlist
Choose by the next failure, not popularity
If normal enemies die but the boss survives, add or improve a single-target slot. If the route collapses under spawned units, test area coverage. If a Mass Cloaker or Teleporter prevents useful targeting, reserve a utility answer and use the current priority behavior. If a support tower reaches only one damage source, either reposition the maze or replace it with direct output.
The separate tower database tracks official counts, upgrades and enemy roles. Use it to build a candidate set, then apply this page's test method. The result is a versioned recommendation for one mode—not a claim that one defense is universally best across 40 Campaign levels, Survival, Quickplay, co-op and PvP.
FAQ
Common questions
Is there one best tower for every mode?
No. Mode bonuses, path layout, Tech, upgrades, enemy abilities and co-op roles change the useful choice.
What changed in version 1.2.3?
All single-target defenses gained 20% damage in Survival and co-op Survival, default support-enemy targeting changed, and several named towers were rebalanced.
How many roles should a loadout cover?
Cover single-target damage, groups, control, support or economy, and a utility counter before spending optional slots.
Can I use a 2024 tier list?
Only as a hypothesis. Retest it on the current patch and mode because multiple official balance updates followed.
