Brotato characters are rulesets, not skins. Each card changes starting gear, stat efficiency, enemy pressure, shop behavior, or the conditions of a run. Choose a first hero with readable bonuses and few severe restrictions; choose specialists only when their altered economy or combat loop is the reason you want to play them. Keep base-game characters, Abyssal Terrors additions, free-update unlocks, and mobile availability labeled separately before stating a roster count.

Read the card in three passes
- First mark multipliers and bonuses: these reveal the stats that gain above-normal value.
- Then mark penalties, caps, and forbidden stats so a copied purchase list does not contain dead choices.
- Finally identify the run-changing rule—extra enemies, structures, pets, one-hit health, weapon limits, or shop behavior.
- Pick a weapon whose attack pattern can operate under all three layers.
- Treat the character-selection screen on the installed platform as the final word on ownership and availability.
Roster boundaries
Attach every count to content and date
The community roster is valuable for comparing cards and unlock conditions, but it is maintained by volunteers. Official notes added content through New Dawn, Paws & Claws, and All Pain No Gain, while Abyssal Terrors has its own listed set and Primal Dread remains unreleased. A count copied before one of those milestones can be accurate for its date and still be wrong for a current installation.
Mobile products are not merely smaller Steam pages. Their event schedules, unlock systems, purchases, and version timing can differ. When a user cannot find a named character, check platform, free versus premium app, owned DLC, current version, and prerequisite before suggesting a hidden code or corrupted save.
