The answer before the background

Our recommendation

Reliable halls of torment builds begin with a delivery method, not a list of rare names. Decide how the main weapon or chosen ability reaches enemies, which compatible multipliers scale it, and what prevents contact damage. Then add one answer for the opposite problem: a crowd build needs Lord damage, while a narrow high-damage build needs area coverage. Marks, equipment and potions should reinforce that plan rather than create four unrelated sub-builds.

Write five decisions before entering the Hall

DecisionQuestionFailure signal
Primary sourceWhich weapon or ability earns most kills?Every source receives shallow investment.
DeliveryArea, range, movement, projectiles or summons?Damage exists on paper but misses targets.
ScalingDirect, critical, effect or summon modifiers?A positive trait cannot affect the chosen source.
SurvivalMovement, block, defense, regeneration or control? The hero dies before scaling matters.
ObjectiveClear, quest, farm, Agony or Vault? The build succeeds at the wrong task.

Translate the hero's attack into a compatible package

An Archer route commonly values positioning and critical-hit relationships, but a no-crit quest deliberately changes that logic. Exterminator searches often point toward burn or rapid application; Warlock searches lead toward summon behavior; Shield Maiden asks how block and defense support her close-range rhythm. These are starting hypotheses, not universal finished lists.

Sage builds require special care because the chosen main ability and mark interactions alter upgrade access. Bard abilities follow the music system described by the official update. Crone wants Decay and summon-compatible choices, while Alchemist converts and combines elemental behavior. Copying those DLC patterns into a base hero ignores the systems that make them work.

Use rank planning and potions to protect the engine

Ability upgrades appear after relevant rank milestones, so taking random branches can block the route a guide expects. Before spending a Potion of Memories or reroll resource, identify which trait tier is irreplaceable and which alternative is merely convenient. The live trait card is authoritative for its applicable sources.

Test a build across ordinary waves, elites and the Lord. Record Hall, artifacts, mark, retrieved equipment, quest unlocks and Torment Shards. If only a lucky chest or late rare variant made the run function, describe it as a high-roll route. A repeatable build should survive an average opening and explain how it pivots when one desired ability does not appear.

Common questions

What is the best build?

There is no permanent universal build. A dependable package matches one damage engine to the Hall, available unlocks and the run's actual objective.

Should I take six abilities?

Only if the build can fund them. A smaller set with full traits and upgrades can be more consistent than six weak sources.

How do marks affect builds?

They add access to another hero's class traits and a listed bonus, creating hybrid scaling while the selected hero keeps the main weapon.

Why did a copied build fail?

Check version, edition, DLC, mark, artifacts, item variants, trait choices and objective before assuming the character is weak.

Official listings establish current availability and product facts. Community pages are used for mechanics and build history, then labeled separately.
