The answer before the background

Our recommendation

Halls of torment items begin as run loot, but equipment becomes a reusable camp option only after the Well retrieval process. Equip the drop for its current effect, store extras in the run bag, or send one eligible unretrieved item through the Well and later buy it from the Wellkeeper. Marks grant class-trait access, while artifacts modify future Hall rules. Rare or green variants require their current retrieval condition and should not be described as ordinary stash upgrades.

Found, equipped, retrieved and purchased are four different states

StateWhere it existsWhat happens next
Chest dropCurrent HallEquip it, place it in the bag or leave it.
Equipped itemCurrent hero/runIts slot effect applies while held; death or exit does not make an unretrieved discovery permanent.
Sent through WellTransferred from runThe selected item leaves the run and becomes available to the Wellkeeper.
Purchased from WellkeeperCamp stashIt can be selected for future loadouts.

A higher rarity is not automatically the better slot choice

Helmet, amulet, rings, chest, boots and gloves compete within their slots. Compare the complete effect with the selected hero, main weapon, abilities and failure mode. A movement or defensive piece can protect a high-damage package better than another additive number; a summon item has little value when the build creates no eligible summons.

Named searches such as Beating Heart, Echoing Band, Elemental Capacitor, Ember Eye, Gatherer's Charm, Gorgon Mask, Jade Amulet, Necromancer's Clutch, Protective Pendant, Rich Man's Plate or Spellcaster Gloves should answer three things: slot, trigger and compatible sources. Do not reuse an old tooltip value without a version date. The live item card and current patch own the exact number.

Rare power comes with an unlock and retrieval boundary

The community item reference documents common equipment, higher-rarity variants and special rules for sending eligible variants through the Well. If an item says it is not sendable, first check quest completion, Well state, rarity-retrieval requirement and current version. Do not recommend a save edit to bypass the rule.

Marks are grouped with the larger item system but function as class-trait bridges. Artifacts belong to Shrine of Torment and endgame planning; some add pressure in exchange for rewards or change encounter rules. Record which artifact produced a result. A build tested with several favorable modifiers should not be sold as the baseline item setup.

Common questions

Do you keep items after a run?

Only items that have entered the permanent stash through the intended retrieval and purchase process are reusable by default; a newly found run drop is not automatically permanent.

How do I send an item up?

Unlock the Wellkeeper, find the Well during a Hall, choose an eligible unretrieved item and retrieve it, then purchase it at camp.

Why is a green item not sendable?

Check the current rarity-retrieval requirement, quest state and version. Rare variants can have additional conditions.

Are artifacts equipment?

No. They are endgame run modifiers that change Hall conditions rather than ordinary gear-slot items.
