Fast answer
The answer before the background
Halls of torment bosses are the final pressure test of a Hall, but the stage determines what reaches them. Build first for its wave density, movement hazards, elites and clear trigger, then reserve a scalable source for the Lord. Official storefronts describe six distinct stages in the current original-game family. The paid Boglands expansion adds its own swamp stage, where the official release note triggers the Lord after 25,000 defeated enemies rather than a fixed countdown.
Stage ledger
Record environment, trigger and ownership together
| Stage group | Preparation question | Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Early Halls | Can the build establish coverage before density rises? | Do not assume endgame equipment or marks. |
| Ember Grounds / Viaduct | Can positioning handle lanes, projectiles and objective travel? | Map icons and secrets depend on quest state. |
| Frozen Depths | Does movement and control survive cold-themed pressure? | Old builds may predate later ability and artifact changes. |
| Vault | Can a shard-supported package handle the endgame sequence? | Treat spoilers and Lord of Greed preparation separately. |
| Boglands | Can the build sustain a kill-count stage and Decay-era enemies? | Paid DLC; Lord appears after the published 25,000-enemy trigger. |
Boss preparation
A Lord build needs damage uptime, not one peak screenshot
Before the final encounter, ask whether the main source can keep hitting while the hero moves. Wide crowd attacks can produce enormous totals without focusing the Lord, while a narrow source can collapse when adds surround the player. Preserve movement, defensive margin and a way to clear the space required for sustained damage.
Named encounters such as the Lich, Lord of Greed, Lord of Blight, Mountain Idol, Wyrm Queen, marching ghosts, Twisted Knight, Void Caller or Wraith Warlord should be tied to their Hall or quest. A named enemy can be a boss, elite, quest target or environmental challenge. Verify the current compendium rather than assuming every autocomplete phrase means the final Lord.
Maps and completion
Use map information to solve an objective, not to promise an infinite layout
The map supports navigation to mastery sources, the Well, quest objects, herbs and bosses, but a stage guide should explain icons and prerequisites. Searches asking whether maps are infinite often confuse a large open arena, continuing enemy movement and endgame scaling. Use the active boundary and interface rather than an unsupported fixed pixel size.
After defeating a Lord, decide whether the remaining objective is still valid and whether the game allows continued collection under the current rules. The Well can receive special convenience behavior after a Lord in the community item reference, but exact post-boss state should be checked in the live version. Do not sacrifice a completed quest to chase one unverified secret.
FAQ
Common questions
How many stages are there?
Current official original-game product descriptions list six stages; owned DLC and later releases must be labeled separately.
How does the Boglands boss appear?
The official launch announcement says its Lord is triggered after defeating 25,000 enemies rather than by a fixed timer.
Are Halls of Torment maps infinite?
Do not infer infinity from the open arena or continuing waves. Use the current map boundary and mode rules.
What should I build for a boss?
Keep damage uptime while moving, enough space control for adds, and a survival margin; crowd totals alone do not prove Lord damage.
