The answer before the background

Our recommendation

A rogue tower map is generated as the player expands the route, so the best choice is the tile that creates useful firing time, not the prettiest line. Favor bends and merges that let several towers cover enemies repeatedly, reserve good elevation for towers that exploit it, and avoid splits that create an unfunded lane. If expansion is fully blocked, the route can terminate in a portal rather than continuing forever.

Measure shared coverage instead of raw tile count

A long isolated branch can consume most of its travel time outside tower range. A shorter bend through the center of an established network may provide more attacks per enemy. Before selecting a tile, trace which existing towers gain coverage, which future elevations remain usable, and whether enemies from different paths merge before the strongest area damage.

Splits increase simultaneous pressure and divide Gold. Merges can concentrate enemies for area effects but may also saturate a weak choke. Expand only after the current network can survive the resulting lane count. The official description makes path influence central, but influence is not complete control; each run still presents random choices.

Spiral, enclosure and custom-map searches need a rules answer

A spiral is a player description of a favorable path shape, not a selectable official map. If a path entirely encloses an area or blocks all legal expansion, judge the resulting portal and coverage rather than expecting the game to open a hidden zone. Record the seed only as a case study; another run may not reproduce it.

The verified Steam feature list does not advertise Workshop or custom-map support. Community modifications may exist, but they are not the same as an official editor and can stop working after patches. This guide provides no mod installation. Use screenshots to compare coverage and terrain, not to claim a universal best map.

Common questions

Is there one best map?

No. The route is procedural; choose tiles by shared coverage, lane funding, elevation and future building sites.

What happens when the path cannot expand?

Community map documentation says a portal can spawn where further expansion is blocked.

Are spiral maps guaranteed?

No. Spiral is a descriptive shape created by available procedural choices.

Does the game have official custom maps?

The checked Steam feature list does not advertise Workshop or a first-party custom-map editor.
