Internet features are not automatically multiplayer
Steam achievements, store access, updates and community pages use the internet, but none creates a shared defensive run. Searching the game online can also mean watching a video or buying a key. The official feature list controls: the current original product is single-player.
The developer chose multiplayer as a headline opportunity for the sequel, which further distinguishes it from the first game. Until a sequel store page explains player count, networking, local play, cross-play and save behavior, those details remain unknown. Do not turn 'multiplayer planned' into 'online co-op confirmed for four players.'

Unsupported networking changes expand the risk surface
A community file advertised as multiplayer can change executable code, synchronize untrusted state or fail after an update. It may depend on a particular patch and can corrupt progression.
